Saints Win Soccer Opener (Author: Staff Report) (Date Submitted: 8/24/2009) The St. Patrick boys' soccer team won its first game of the season Thursday with a 2-0 victory at Walton-Verona.
The game was scoreless until the 45th minute when a Walton-Verona player accidentally knocked the ball into the Bearcats' own goal to give the Saints a 1-0 lead. Six minutes later, Edward Jimenez scored on an assist from Zboy Oluwaremi.
St. Patrick goalkeeper Stephen Mason recorded nine assists in the shutout.
St. Patrick improved to 1-0-1. Walton-Verona is 1-1.
